Doug Herdson Leaves the National Marine Aquarium
Dr Doug Herdson, Information Officer at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth emailed and said:-
Unfortunately, financial difficulties at the National Marine Aquarium have lead to restructuring, and in the process, my post has been chosen for redundancy.  Hence, I will be finishing here at the end of November.
I still intend working in marine biology, fisheries and conservation, environmental education where I can, probably on a freelance basis.  I want to remain active in the rare fish work, so please keep me in touch and let me know what turns up.  If anyone knows of any work going I would be grateful if you could let me know.
Although I shall no longer be working at the National Marine Aquarium, I will continue to maintain my interest in unusual fish and changes in their distributions.
I am still prepared to try to identify uncommon or problem fish, BUT please contact me first on 01752 405155.  Also, please realise that the time I am able to dedicate to this work may be limited.

I am continuing to use my present contact details for the moment; but after 27th November please do contact me on 01752 405155 or [email protected].

National Flounder Shore Championships

Dunraven Windows, Bridgend, South Wales;  Civil Solutions, Builders Merchants, Heathfield,  Newton Abbot;  Phoenix Builders of Bovey Tracey;
Fishing Tackle manufacturers Any fish Anywhere, Torquay; & Torbay Angling.

The winner was Robert Hackworthy of Plymouth Rod Benders with a beautiful conditioned fish of 3lb 3.1.oz  caught on the Saturday and he wins 1000 first prize plus 260 pools
The 12 National Flounder Championships is back on track following a downturn in entries over the past two years due to the lack of flounder in the river and consequent poor catches.
The 250 competitors including 22 Juniors travelled from all over the south of England. and Wales to brave the winter winds and rain which prevailed on both days.
Over 70 entrants caught and weighed good quality fish with 3 fish above 3lbs and a total of 11 fish were recorded above 2lb 8oz, the NFSA Specimen weight for the area.
The Championship from its inception has always been fished with conservation of the species in mind and all but five of fish were returned live to the river and the remainder were prepared and donated for the table.
The success of these Championships must in no small part be down to the excellent backing of the sponsors who support the prizes of 1000 first place, and 250 for each day prize, plus good quality tackle prizes down to 10th place on both days of the championship.
The presentations were held at the Lifeboat Station and made by Mrs Steve Drew the wife of the longstanding president of the Teignmouth SAS. She also presented a cheque for 250 to the Local RNLI Branch Society which was received on behalf of the branch by Kelly Brock.

NFSA Extraordinary General Meeting

An Extraordinary General Meeting of the National Federation of Sea Anglers will. be held at their Head Office at Buckfastleigh at 11 am on Saturday December 6th.

Its purpose is to take the necessary constitutional steps to transfer their assets, staff and operation into the new unified body, "Anglers Trust".

There are three resolutions for consideration, all of which relate directly to the transfer.  These are detailed in the postal ballot voting form which has been sent to all parties entitled to vote.

Affiliated Clubs and Individual Members of the NFSA will have already received notification of the forthcoming EGM, via Royal Mail.

I urge you to please read and complete your postal ballot form, which must be returned to the NFSA Head Office no later than Wednesday 3rd December.

You may choose to attend the EGM yourself as a member of the NFSA.

There is every need to support and ensure a smooth transition for the future benefit of our sport.

This is the most significant change in representation of recreational sea angling to have occurred during my lifetime.
